PAY RANGE: $19.81 - $21.52 PER HOUR

General Statement of Duties:

Performs semi-skilled and skilled work related to installation, maintenance and repair of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, Collections System, and Lift Stations.
Distinguishing Features of the Position:
An employee in this position is responsible for applying knowledge and skills to a variety of work required in the Wastewater field. The employee will perform a variety of duties requiring the skilled application of hand tools, power tools, portable equipment used in installation, repair, and maintenance of collection system, lift stations, and the wastewater plant. Does related work as required or deemed necessary by the Wastewater Superintendent, Wastewater Operations Manager, and Wastewater Maintenance Manager. Must be reasonably available for off-hour call-ins.

Examples of work (Illustrative only):

• Construct forms; place and finish concrete; dig, pour, and set concrete footings and monuments
• Address a wide variety of public service department needs through operation of tampers, portable generators, portable pumps, air compressors, small (35 HP or less) tractors and attachments, push mowers, string trimmers, dump truck spreaders, pick-up trucks, light (one ton or less) dump trucks, and other related equipment
• Operate hand blower, sewer jet and sewer vac, and CCTV equipment
• Inspect manholes; install and repair sewer mains and service lines; install and repair manholes and lamp holes; complete sewer taps and connections; enter confined spaces (manholes, tanks, pits, etc.)
• Check customer complaints and apply knowledge top resolve problems, such as plugged lines, sewer odor, and other concerns
• Perform maintenance in the Wastewater Treatment Plant and Collections System; repair and install pumps; identify E&I problems
• Use safety equipment properly
• Operate dump trucks, service truck, air compressor, tamper, portable generators, cut off & chain saws, air blowers, and Jet & Vac truck
• Document daily work sheets, complaint sheets, and reports
• Dye & smoke test Collection System
• Move office furnishings; empty and haul trash; pick up paper and debris and properly dispose of it
• Sweep walks, porches, and steps; remove snow and ice by plowing with a tractor, utility vehicle or small dump truck, or with hand tools and salt application; routine custodial duties
• Serve as flagger for traffic control
• Serve as lead over lower classified employees
• Work outside in all weather conditions; work as a laborer when required
• Operate portable generators

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Good knowledge of piping, plumbing, and mechanical skills used in the Wastewater field
• Documentation skills; ability to read blue prints and diagrams, and to make reports
• Able to follow oral and written instructions
• Dependability and good character
• Maintain good physical condition sufficient to perform labor-intensive tasks required by the job description
• Able to handle customer complaints in a professional and timely manner

Required Qualifications:

• Employees in this position shall be required to take the Operator Training Committee of Ohio Wastewater Collection System I training course (or equivalent) within 18 months from date of appointment to this position; upon successful completion of this training, the employee should receive and maintain a Class I Wastewater Collections Professional Operator Certification issued by the Ohio EPA within two (2) years, or when mandated by the Ohio EPA
• The employee should also obtain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Class B air brake and tanker endorsement within 180 days from date of appointment to this position.
