The city operates sixteen parks, encompassing more than 180 acres. In addition, there is a bike and walking trail throughout the City for the public to enjoy. The municipal parks include three playgrounds/ball fields, one neighborhood playground, nine passive parks, and four other parks offering a variety of active play facilities. Playgrounds are typically equipped with swings, slides, and similar facilities. Playfields include both practice and regulation size softball fields. Playgrounds, fields, and basketball courts exist in several locations throughout the city, and the Marietta Aquatic Center is located at Indian Acres. The majority of passive parks in Marietta are orientated to the riverfront and include sites of historical significance and are generally limited to plantings, paths, and benches.
Marietta Aquatic Center Marietta residents have access to the following sports facilities:
- Three (double-court) lighted tennis courts (Lookout Park and Indian Acres)
- Three lighted basketball courts (Washington, Flanders, and Jaycee Parks)
- Four lighted and two unlighted softball fields (Flanders Field, Buckeye and Hadley Parks)
- Skate Park (Indian Acres)
Other facilities include:
- One picnic shelters (Buckeye Park)
- One performance pavilion (East Muskingum Park)
- Fishing Pond (Buckeye Park)
- Various picnic areas which include tables
- Overnight boat docking (Marietta boat harbor) which includes boat rental and boat launch area (Indian Acres)
- One community center (Lookout Park)
Marietta Aquatic Center Most facilities are open to the public at no charge. The Marietta Aquatic Center (MAC) and community center require fees. The Aquatic Center, an outdoor water park, can accommodate over 1200 swimmers during summer months . The pool hours (noon until 7:00 pm) allow lessons to be offered in the morning hours and open swim during the afternoon and early evenings. Some evenings are made available for private rental as well as public dances. The park has two water slides, pirate ship with additional slides for tots in the main pool area. There is also a lap pool, baby pool, spray ground, and a lazy river.
The majority of programs under the recreation department involve active sports, including both instruction and competitive team play. The Marietta Recreation Department offers league play in softball, volleyball, and basketball. Instructional classes are available for tennis, swimming. Other activities are provided as free play, such as swimming, concerts, , music in the park, etc.
A summer supervised playground program is offered at no charge to area children. The program includes active play, special educational events as well as arts and crafts and passive activities for 5 to 12 year olds.
Other special event activities throughout the year include: safe-boating, Bobbers at Buckeye (learn to fish), Halloween at the Park party (a free to the public event which is attended by over 1,500 children).
Our community is blessed with many historic sites and lore for our local tourists, as we are the first organized settlement of the Northwest Territory.
